1. Excursion in the centre of the Salt Country (ca. 7 hours – 70 km)

Good to know about the sites

Praid:     An other curiosity beside the salt lakes of Sovata is he fascinating salt mine at nearby Praid. There has been salt mining here for centuries thanks to an almost 3 km deep salt seam running under the area.
A visit to mine is not recommended for anyone who has heart problems, high blood pressure and claustrophobia. On the other hand, it is great for asthma and other respiratory problems. Deep in the mine, there is an Ecumenical church where services have been held since 1993. There is a small museum and a children’s playground in the salt chambers.

                

Sovata:  Sovata lies in the middle of the Salt Country. There is a large seam of salt running underground, left here by the sea which once covered the area many millions of yers ago. The waer carves out caves i theis layer of salt and at the and og 1870’s, one of these caves collapsed and formed the largest of the lakes, Bear Lake, so called as it is shaped like a bearskin. Just few minutes away there are another lakes: „Nutty” Lake, Green Lake, Red Lake, Black Lake.

  

2. Bicaz Gorge and Killer Lake (whole day / 300 km)

11.00. Move on to Killer Lake, walk along the lake
13.00. Lunch at restaurant Lacul Rosu
14.00. Walk through the central part of the Bicaz Gorge

Goed to know about the sites:

Lazarea:The castle is one of the most beautiful examples of Transylvania Renaissance architecture. The greatest of the Transylvanian princes, Gábor Bethlen, was brought up here by his maternal uncle, András Lázár.  De castle dates back to the 15th Century is being renovated by bit but even in its present state, it is feast for the eyes. The most interesting part is the council chamber in the rear building, where are stoves decorated with colorful tiles from Corund.

   

Killer Lake:   is a rare natural phenomenon. In 1837, after very heavy rainstorms, partof the rock wich towers Bicaz Brook broke off and dammed the stream. A lake formed and the chemical make-up of the water has preserved the pine trees that were growing there. Alhough, it is forbidden to swim or fish, there are plenty of other things to do around the lake: boating or take an atmospheric walk around the lake which takes approximately 1 hour.

  

Bicaz Gorge: is located in the victinity of the Killer lake. This is one of the most dramatic mountain passes in the carpathians; the main road winds between 200-300 m high cliffs for several kilometres, with just enough room for the road.

Good to know about the site

Targu Mures has been always Szekelyland’s centre in terms culture and trade. In spite of this, it retained its rural atmosphere right up to the beginning of the 20th century, when urban development got underway. It was than that the town centre cityscape really began to take shape.The Art Nouveau buildings so admired today also date back to this time.
The best known buildings of Targu Mures are the Old Town Hall, Palace of Culture and the Teleki Library.
The Old Town Hall now serves as local government offices. The Palace of Culture is open to the public. We can admire in the building the Entrance Hall - which conjures up the atmosphere of an Indian temple -, the Concert Hall with an especially valuable organ, Hall of Mirrors – originally venue for concerts and receptions with twelve beautiful stained-glass windows and mirrors.

   

The Teleki Library houses an extensive collection put together by an Transylvanian Chancellor called Count Samuel Teleki. Over a period of six decades, Teleki searched the length and breadth of Europe, methodically acquiring some of the most significiant books ever printed. During his travels, the book-loving count would carry books which he considered particularly precious with him in the carriage. His collection, which includes real rarities and some of the earliest books ever produced, consisted of some 40 000 volumes when it was opened as the first public library of Transylvania in 1802.

   

4. Excursion to Sighisoara and Biertan (whole day / 220 km)

Good to know about the sites

Biertan:   Once a Saxon Lutheran Cathedral, the 16th century, Gothic-style fortified church at Bierta is one of the largest and best-known in Transylvania and unsurprisingly, it is a UNESCO World Heritge Site. This little town, in the summe buzzes with tourists.

   

Sighişoara:   has the most picturesque castle quarter – a UNESCO World Heritage site. Most of the houses have not been renovated but this certainly contributes to the town’s old atmosphere.
Sighişoara has become famous across the world as the birth-place of the Wallachian ruler, who came to be the antihero of Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula.
During the walking tour we’ll visit the Clock Tower with his ornamental clock. The tower houses now the town’s Museum of History. From the top floor, there’s a wonderful view of the town andthe castle quarter, and on your way up you can take closer look at the clock figures and the clock mechanism.
On the square in front of te tower the house can be seen where Vlad Tepes Dracula was born.
The other sights of the castle quarter: Monastery church dating from the 15th century, ‘Stag House’ with fresco’s from the 17th century, Student Steps, Hilltop Church – masterpiece of Transylvanian Gothic architecture, Lutheran cemetery.

   

5. Excursio to the volcanic Csomad/Ciomat Mountains (whole day / 300 km)

08.30. Travel to Maréfalva/Satu Mare
09.30. Stop in Maréfalva to admire the Sekler gates
11.00. Arrival to the National Park of Ciomat Mountains
12.30. Visit Mohos peat bog and walk to the Anna Lake
13.00. Picnic or gril party a the Lake (in case of nice weather)
16.30. Back to Sovata

Good to know about the sites

On way to the Ciomat Mountains we pass the next places: town Odorheiu Secuiesc, Máréfalva, Homoródfürdő, Szentegyháza, Harghita Mountains,  town Miercurea Ciuc, resort Tuşnad located on the bank of river Olt.

Máréfalva:   a small village on way to Ciomat Mountains where the richest collection of ornamental Sekler gates can be seen. 14 of these gates were made in the 19th century and protected historical monuments.

  

National Park Ciomat:   is located 950 m above the see level in de two craters of the extinct volcano of Mountain Big Ciomat.  This lake is a rare natural tresure, being the only volcanic lake in South East Europe. Almost perfectly round, it is surrended by a ring of mountains. In the victinity of the lake you can find the Saint Anna Chapel.

   

The Mohos peat bog has developed in the other crater. The diameter of the bog is 800 m. The bog is home to many ponds and plant which have existed since the last Ice Age, giving the place other world atmsphere. For the visitors narrow wooden walkway has been built over the marshy land that allows you to walk throughpart of the bog.

6. Hiking

Guided hiking can be also organized in Harghita, Ciomat and Görgényi Mountains. In the mountains mofettes, caves, spa water springs, open air strans, bogs with meat-eating plants, romantic ruins of castles.

7. Team building

Team building can be organized in the mountains and the Adventure Park in Sovata.
The goal of outdoor-trainings is to improve the human resources of a comoaniy or organisation, for a better coorporation and the improvement of productivity. Learning projects and outdoor activities such as rock climbing, orientation games, flying fox, slant, expeditions, raftmaking are aiming the development of personal of teamwork skills like: communication skills, making decision, task management, time-, risk- and project management.

10. Open Air Folklor (from May till September)

Dances, songs, folkmusic in Gagy.
Gagy is one of the small villages with small houses along the rivier Nyikó.
We eat in the loft of a stable. The bread and the dishes are from a real oven from the time of grandma’.
In the stable there are a cow, a horse, sheeps, goats……..idyllic, peaceful, beautiful view………………

11. Paragliding

The most simply way of flying. For beginners tandem flying is recommended.

12. Paintball in Sovata
